  “That was contingent upon you fucking me,” I groan as he sucks on my clit, my damn panties still in the way.

  He pauses again. I really need to stop talking to him, but I can’t help it. “All in good time, sunshine.” His mouth goes back to my clit as his fingertip traces my inner lips, lightly, so lightly, through the silky fabric.

  “Now’s a good time,” I pant. “Right now is really good. It’s excellent.”

  At long last, he hooks his fingers in my panties and pulls them off, but he’s still clothed from the waist down. That needs to change. I dive at him and get my fingers on the button of his jeans before he stops me.

  “Ah-ah. That’s not being good.” He hauls me across his lap. There’s a dull thud, and I realize the bag with his present just fell off the bed onto the floor. Good thing it’s not fragile.

  My hands grip the bedclothes as Vic goes to work on me. One hand reaches between my legs, two fingers splitting on either side of my clit. The other hand cracks against my ass, stopping every ten smacks or so to rub my stinging flesh, while the fingers near my clit move slowly up and down, tormenting me, bringing agonizing pleasure without the ultimate satisfaction.

  He spanks me until my legs start to kick, my feet drumming against the mattress, my body screaming for release. Literally, in this case. “Victor!”

  A final flurry of swats on my sit spot, and he rolls me onto my back and shucks off his jeans and boxer briefs lightning fast. An instant later he’s between my thighs again, bringing my legs up to wrap them around his neck before he plunges inside me.

  He’s got us angled so he rubs against my clit with every stroke, and I climax with his first thrust, my body primed to respond. I went on the pill after I got home from the hospital, which is good, because he’s driving into me hard and fast, his eyes locked on mine, and I can’t stop coming.

  I have what feels like twenty-five orgasms before Vic slams home inside me a final time and lets go, head back, mouth open, pouring himself out. When his heavy weight settles on me, I bear it gladly, stroking his hair until he manages to roll us on our sides.

  “Every time, it just keeps getting better.” He cuddles me close. “How the hell does that happen?”

  I kiss his chest. “I don’t know, but I’m not complaining.”

  “Me either, doll.” We lie there contented for a few minutes before he kisses my brow and says, “Let’s get cleaned up and go sledding.”

  “That was so much fun,” I say when we come in the back door hours later.

  “Glad you liked it, sunshine.” We take off our boots and hang up our cold-weather gear. “I’ll go make us some lunch.”

  “Thanks, baby.” Tonight, Kosta and Erin are hosting the traditional Christmas Eve seafood feast, and we’re spending Christmas morning with Vic’s family, so this is our last “just us” meal for a couple of days. I get the table set while he’s cooking, then go and wrap his gift.

  I got him a sculpture that we saw one evening while we were browsing through his cousin Alcina’s art gallery downtown. It’s small, but detailed, with exquisite craftsmanship. It shows a man with a map of the world overlaid on his skin, like a great big tattoo.

  Vic looked at it a long time. He said it reminded him of all his travels, and how they’ve brought him to where he is. So I had to get it for him. Alcina let me buy it in installments, and I just gave her the final payment yesterday.

  The money was not a problem because I’m working for Carlo now. I test security systems for weaknesses, and help him design better ones. Sometimes, I get to go out to businesses who hire him to evaluate their security and break in, documenting all the ways their systems can be breached.

  It’s a lot of fun, and it pays well. I’m banking the bulk of what I make; Vic lets me help with expenses, but he pays for most things. One thing I want to do is save up for a new car, but beyond that I figure it’s good to have extra, just in case.

  Tonio says he’ll help me invest it if I want. He’s a self-made billionaire, so I could do worse. He and Cait are hosting Christmas dinner this year, and she’s all in a dither about making everything perfect for the hordes of Adamos who are going to be there.

  What I’m nervous about is spending spending Christmas morning with Vic’s parents. They’ve been nothing but wonderful to me, but Victor and I are still new enough that I’m self-conscious, eager to make a good impression, be the perfect girlfriend.

  I know it’s because I don’t have a family of my own to fall back on, but that doesn’t change how I feel. Putting a bow on the gift, I take it back out to our dining nook.

  “Mmm, soup. Smells delicious.” It’s tomato bisque, with thick, crusty rolls and a green salad. You’d think I’d have gained fifty pounds from living with Victor, but I think we burn off the extra calories in bed.

  I set the sculpture down by his plate, then sit down. He smiles at the gift, but that’s all, and I start to feel a little uneasy.

  Have I gone overboard? Broken some longstanding tradition? I could have given it to him tomorrow, but it felt more personal than that … and, truth be told, I was worried what his parents would say. That they’d think it was too extravagant and I was trying to buy his affections or something. Totally ridiculous fear, but there you go.

  Deciding to brazen it out, I pick up my spoon and taste the soup. It’s wonderful. “So good, honey. I know I tell you this all the time, but I love your cooking.”

  “Thanks, doll.” He nudges the package. “Should I open this now?”

  “Sure.” I’ll just be nonchalant about the whole thing. That’s what I think, but I stop eating and watch as he unwraps it. He draws out the sculpture and examines it carefully, as if he’d never seen it before, before he leans over to kiss me.

  “You see into the heart of me, Francesca, like no one ever has. Thank you.”

  That gets me misty-eyed. “You’re welcome.”

  “I got you a little something too.”

  My heart thumps. “You did?” Sly man, not letting on at all. Then my heart stops beating altogether when he holds out a little velvet box. “Vic …”

  “Open it.”

  The ring is beautiful, not huge or showy, but gorgeous. I catch a glimpse of lettering inside the band, and tilt it to see that he’s had tesora mia — my treasure — engraved there.

  Vic takes my hand. “Frankie Zanetti, you’re the heart of my heart, the keeper of my flame, the center of my dreams. I want to spend every day of the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

  “Yes,” I tell him, laughing and crying at the same time, and he slides the ring onto my finger. Suddenly, everything that matters is right in my world. And with Victor at my side, it always will be.
